What IS personal revival?
“Oh! men and brethren, what would this heart feel if I could but believe that there were some among you who would go home and pray for a revival—men whose faith is large enough, and their love fiery enough to lead them from this moment to exercise unceasing intercessions that God would appear among us and do wondrous things here, as in the times of former generations.” – Charles H. Spurgeon
Personal revival. It seems like a contradiction. Isn’t revival supposed to be for the other person—the unbeliever? Yes and no. Unbelievers need to be revived by being born again. But believers need to be revived, too. We all need personal revival. We all need a renewal in God’s Spirit.
True revival begins with us. True revival begins when we wake up to the awesome presence of God in our lives. True revival begins when we allow Him to renew us by the Holy Spirit.
Pastor Skip Heitzig examines personal revival, focusing on four key elements that lead to revival:
• Restlessness • Receptivity
• Renunciation • Return
As Adrian Rogers said, “God has always sent revival in the darkest days. Oh, for a mighty, sweeping revival today!”
